What Italy asks for

Appointments in many countries run through a booking system operated on the consulate's behalf, and the document checklist published for your city is the one that counts. Requirements differ slightly between consulates: the one in your jurisdiction may ask for an extra financial document or a specific insurance format that another does not.

- Accommodation must cover the whole stay. If your reservation shows eleven nights and your hotel booking covers seven, expect a question about the missing four.
- Entry and exit should make sense. Flying into Milan and out of Naples is perfectly normal for an Italian trip, but the internal travel in between should be plausible.
- Insurance must cover the same dates. Policies bought for the flight dates but not the buffer days are a frequent source of follow-up requests.
- Italy as the main destination. If you are spending more nights in another Schengen country, that country's consulate is the right one.

What the reservation should show

- A genuine booking reference tied to an airline record
- Entry into and departure from the Schengen area
- Dates that sit inside the stay you have requested
- Flight numbers and operating carriers, not just cities and times
If you are travelling as a family or a group, each traveller needs to appear on a booking. Where several passengers share one record, make sure every name on it is spelled as in that person's passport.
How long your booking should stay live
Italian processing times move with the season. Files submitted in late spring for summer travel take longer than the same file in November, and some consulates publish longer indicative times than others.
Choose the validity window against the time your file will actually sit with the consulate, not against the day of your appointment. For most applicants that means the 7-day or 14-day option. A 48-hour reservation suits a same-week appointment or a document you need to show at a border, not a visa file in a queue.
