What the reservation should contain
- Your full name exactly as in the passport
- A real booking reference that can be checked with the airline
- Arrival into and departure from the Schengen area, with flight numbers and dates
- Dates that fall inside the stay you are requesting and match your accommodation
Where a trip includes a business element, any invitation or meeting confirmation should be dated consistently with the flights. Contradictions between an invitation and an itinerary are read as a sign the file was assembled rather than planned.
How long the booking should last
Choose the window against how long your file will be with the consulate, not against your appointment date. Peak-season files take longer than the indicative processing time in many countries, and a reservation that lapses mid-assessment may produce a request for an updated document.
For most Dutch applications, 7 or 14 days is the sensible choice. The 48-hour option fits a same-week appointment or a proof-of-onward-travel request at check-in, not a visa queue.
